UPCOMING PROJECTS 2010 Busy, Busy Bee! Several projects are in the works -
I will also soon be adding a guest gallery for guest art of Winterborn characters, as I've commissioned and been gifted a few lovely pieces.
ABOUT THE ARTIST Apis Teicher is a freelance writer and illustrator. She speaks several languages, has lived in five countries, including a three year stint working in Japan and is also deathly afraid of mimes and mold. She holds a Degree in English and Humanities from SFU and a 3D Computer Animation and Digital Effects Diploma from VFS, and perenially tries to put all of those to use in one form or another. She is also generally amused of referring to herself in the third person, but what can you do. PUBLISHED WORK: Non-fiction: Apis is staff writer and B.C. Correspondent for the newspaper AFTERWORD and a regular reviewer for COMIXPEDIA She has published several pieces in other publications in Canada, the US and Japan such as The/La Source (Vancouver, Canada),HaKesher, Vancouver Board of Trade’s Sounding Board (Vancouver, Canada), The Bloomsbury Review (Denver, USA) Yokkaichi International Association ( Mie, Japan), The Mie Times (Mie, Japan), The Pacific Rim Review (Vancouver, Canada). Illustration and fiction: Her illustrations for Baen, E. Friesner's story "Benny Comes Home" can be found in the Baen's Universe Anthology (2006) available on Amazon . Apis has also self published an artbook, Shadowspires, which can be bought from the publisher below or from Amazon; it covers her art and stories from three of her ongoing webcomics. Her novella, "A Prelude To Nocturnia" was published by Kanallje Press (MAS-Zine) in Spring 2006. (Mature readers only, Dark M/M Fantasy: A Prelude to Nocturnia by Malarky Warrior-diplomat Angus, lord of the Unseelie and younger brother to Queen Althea of Summerhey has always been more interested in military maneuvers and the vigilant protection of his homeland than in the intrigues of the court. Fate throws a wrench into his carefully laid plans as he is gifted with a pookah -- a male, to boot, neither of which holds any interest for the sidhe prince. Ti'naul is the exact opposite of Angus -- slight, timid, gentle; from the very start a poor choice of Companion. Neither pookah nor sidhe lord give the liaision any hope of survival, but the intrigues between Summerhey and its rival Shadow Court soon launch them fully into the preparations for war, an ill-timed excursion amidst the iron-wielding humans and a whirlwind of events that forces their relationship to other levels.
ILLUSTRATION WORK:
To date Apis' work has been primarily for private art commissions and the Art Show convention circuits, she also had a Gallery Show in Jusco Nabari, Japan ( April 10-12th, 2004).

NEWS Watch the Interview with Apis Teicher, in which she talks about her webcomics, her new artbook and her work in general. The interview is in Spanish- it was taped while she was Visiting Colombia, and aired in the National channel RCN on Friday January 13th, 2006. It was filmed for a show called Estilo RCN, for the segment "Gente con Estilo" (People with Style). Correction! -
I have contacted the editor in the hopes that they can print a correction, but in the meantime - please give credit where its due and check out Esther's site. The story ( with my illustrations) can be purchased in an Anthology from Amazon, and don't miss out on the other wonderful tales published by Baen. Our BJD Company, Featherfall From illustrating Fantasy and Sci Fi it was a natural step to co onto Ball Jointed Dolls. I even designed one of them, our time traveler, Finn. The Shadowspires Artbook can be purchased directly from the publisher ( click below) or from Amazon.com ( search for Shadowspires) ABOUT THE ARTBOOK A companion book of my illustration work. Largely, it covers the art of all three webcomics – Blatah, Nocturnia and Haven: Hathaway, although it also includes some of my random illustrations from other projects. As an extra treat, there are also several stories that give glimpses of the relationship or background of some of the characters that couldn’t really fully be explored in the webcomics. There you’ll find the background of Nocturnia’s Angus and some of his earlier days, when he was young and a lot less jaded; a scene between Liam and Quinn that explains a lot more about their relationship; a sequence between Eggman and Aryck --- and the list goes on! They are some of the writings that couldn’t be fit even in the mailing lists, and most of the art is previously unreleased, so you really are getting a special treat. 108 full colour pages! FAQs Assorted frequently asked questions. ABOUT MY ART 1. I saw your Elfwood/Deviant Art/Epilogue gallery, and your picture of... is perfect for my role-playing character, can I use it? NO, you can't. Many of the pictures on my galleries are either of my own characters (copyrighted, hands off) or depictions of commissioned characters. As such, they are copyrighted to their creators, and because of this I do not take kindly to people ripping them off. If you are dead set on a character, then talk to me about commissions, and perhaps we can set something up. 2. Will you draw my role-playing character? Certainly - on commission, and as long as your character is original and not a copy of a copyrighted one. As you probably know if you came from my galleries, I don't do requests. I do however, undertake commissions. 3. Do you draw commissions? What do you charge? Yes, time permitting. I have a commission queue that you can check out to see if I am currently available. 4. What tools do you use? It depends on the piece, really. For my comics, I draw them with a mechanical pencil, ink with Staedtler inking pens and CG colour in Photoshop. For illustrations or commissions, any of the following media: Pencil, ink, watercolour pencils, COPIC markers, CG (Photoshop). 5. Do you sell prints? Yes. Contact me if you are interested in a particular piece. 6. What are your influences? Art wise? Writing wise? I love classic sci-fi such as Bradbury or Asimov, and numerous fantasy writers, and am an avid fan of Jewish Mysticism and World mythologies. Additionally, I've role-played a number of years, which inevitably colours the mood of my setting. As for art, too many to list - manga artists galore, such as Yu Watase, Yoshitaka Amano and fantasy artists like Patrick Woodroffe and so on. My favourite styles of art include Art Nouveau and the Pre-Raphaelites. 7. Do you do art trades? No. 8. Do you do attend conventions? Yes, time and funds permitting. When I don't attend in person I usually send work to the Art Show. ABOUT MY WEBCOMICS 1. What does "Blatah!" mean? Personally I've always thought that there are some things best left unexplained.. but since I get this question a considerable amount of times: Bla-tah! : In the Draconic dialect of the Tyur clan, it means "Charge!" "onwards!" and "pastry". Told you so. 2. Why is the comic so blurry? Have you tried... (insert suggestion) I always welcome input about the storyline and art, however in this case the effect IS deliberate. The first part of Blatah! is supposed to leave the reader with a vague dreamlike impression.. the same dazed state that Eggman is often it. Hence the blurriness, more specifically achieved with Photoshop's airbrush tool. Once you get past the first half, the style changes significantly, and if you are a new reader, now you know its entirely done in colour, more comic style. MISCELLANEOUS 1. Can I have your icq/msn/aol name so that we can chat? No. I don't give it out randomly, except if we are discussing a commission. Too many people instant messaged me in the past about my web comics and my galleries. I love hearing from fans, but honestly I don't have the time or attention span to be able to just chat. Feel free to emai me any time though, and I'll do my best to answer questions there. 2. Will you link to my page/comic/gallery? I often do from my web comics, and am in the process of a much overdue revamping of my links page. Keep in mind that I will only do so if I -really- like the content and you have a substantial amount of work online (as in your comic has been going at least a few months) Send me the url, I will at least check it out. |
